At Habitats, we believe that protecting and restoring biodiversity requires not only bold action but also full accountability. Every euro we receive is a responsibility - to nature, to our partners, and to everyone who supports our mission. On this page, we share our annual report and financial overview so you can see exactly how your support creates impact. From the resources we invest to the trees we plant and the ecosystems we protect, we invite you to follow the journey with us.

Our Annual Report 2024

2024 was a landmark year for Habitats. We received our very first financial support, launched our inaugural projects, and laid the foundations for our new organization.

In this first annual report, you’ll find an overview of the three programmes we initiated across five key habitats: tropical forests, coasts, wetlands, grasslands, and oceans. From cloud forests in Ecuador to mangrove coasts in Kenya, our work combined on-the-ground action with science-driven methods such as eDNA biodiversity assessments, local capacity building, and seedling propagation for critically endangered species.

You’ll also see how we shaped the organization itself: forming our first strategic partnerships, co-creating programmes with local partners, and preparing for large-scale impact starting in 2025. All of this was achieved with overhead costs kept under 1%, thanks to voluntary contributions and in-kind support.

This first report marks the beginning of our journey to scale community-led, science-based conservation. We invite you to download it and see how your support helps protect and restore nature where it matters most.

Habitats Annual Report 2024

We’re just getting started

This reporting year (2024) was particularly special—it marked the beginning of our journey, with our first financial support received and our first projects launched.

All our founders continue to balance Habitats with other professional commitments, allowing us to operate on a volunteer basis without salaries. Additionally, many essential costs were absorbed by our founding companies: our website and branding were developed pro bono by our founding partner Quest, and other founding companies contributed to operational costs and project funding for Habitats. This approach ensured that every contribution from our early donors went directly to project implementation.

Where we are heading

Looking ahead, we recognize that growing our impact will require strengthening our internal capacity. Our unique structure, with multiple regional chapters sharing resources and programs, will continue to enable us to direct the maximum possible funding toward project delivery. We remain committed to capping our project overhead costs at 15%.

To build on this foundation, we are also seeking unrestricted funding—from individuals or organizations who believe in investing in our team and organizational infrastructure. Such support will allow us to lay the strategic groundwork needed to grow not only faster but also more sustainably. We’re very thankful for the organizations who have committed to support our core structure from 2025 onward. Their multi-year investment will allow us to accelerate our mission.
